Why Did I Start Frost Buddy?

We started Frost Buddy because we absolutely hated going to the beach or hanging out by the pool or on the golf course, and coming back to a half full warm beer. There is nothing more wasteful and saddening than that, and that's when my brother brought up the idea for a slim can cooler. It's very rare to see people not drinking from slim cans today, and we wanted to start off protecting the White Claws, Trulys, Michelob Ultras, and now all of the other new brands. I'm in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and my brother is a State Farm agent in Olney, Illinois. 

From my experience in prior businesses, I knew that I could find a manufacturer for the product, and I had us a sample within a week. With a few tweaks here and there, we were able to get a final product that we loved. Our slim can cooler did exactly what we wanted which was keep cans cold for 24 hours in the hot sun. We couldn't be happier except for the corona virus delaying us about 2 months! What better than to try and start a company in the middle of a world pandemic! 

Being a former division 1 athlete at the University of Illinois and a competitor myself, we wanted to take on the challenge of an ecommerce business. I did not have a ton of experience in the space, but just like sports, I knew I could work hard enough to master the skills. All it takes is rep after rep until you get it right. 

I have wanted to be an entrepreneur my entire life. All I knew was that I could not work for someone, and I needed to find a way to create something to change the world. I wanted to find something that could solve a problem. Having a "safe" 9-5 was never really an option that sounded fun to me. The way I see it, the more that I can try things and fail, the faster I will learn what not to do leading me towards what I need to do. With Frost Buddy, we decided to jump in and get learning. We didn't know everything, and we've learned more along the way than I ever could have imagined, but it has been the greatest experience of my life. There is something different everyday, and we just hustle from the time we wake up until we go to bed because we have created a product line that we believe in wholeheartedly. 99% of businesses fail, and who knows if we will make it, but we are committed to the process of learning, and we are committed to creating the best product and best experience for our customers. 

Just jump in and start failing because that is the way to learn. People will hate and judge because that's just life, but I can tell you that they probably don't have the guts to go after it if they are hating. One day if and when you make it, those same haters will be supporters. Just keep moving forward, setting targets, and working your butt off until you get to where you want to be. Learn, learn, learn! Love what you do, and love the process because that's what we are doing it for. There is no end goal in mind! Just love every day, and get after it!
